Measures and information on the coronavirus situation: Skiing in Austria 2022

The 2022/23 winter season is about to start and the question arises as to what the current measures regarding the coronavirus situation in Austria are. Since April 16, 2022, masks have no longer been compulsory for cable cars, hotels and restaurants. So everyone can freely decide whether they want to wear a mask or not.

In addition, it is currently possible to enter Austria without proof of 3G (vaccinated, recovered, tested).

The entire NAKED Optics team wishes you a great start to the 2022/23 winter season.

FFP2 mask requirement indoors - skiing also partially affected

In Austria, there is now a general FFP2 mask requirement again due to the current circumstances. The new measures apply in all closed rooms. As a result, the FFP2 mask also partially returns when skiing. The following areas are currently affected:

  • Public transport (ski bus)
  • Gondolas (chairlifts are excluded during the ride)
  • Lift station building, queuing area, toilet facilities
  • Gastronomy (on the way to the campsite)

New rules for after-gastronomy

New measures also apply to meetings in closed rooms of 100 or more people. Here the operators are free to introduce an FFP2 mask requirement or a 3G check. If there is a 3-G control, you need a 3-G proof to enter the night gastronomy (3-G: vaccinated, recovered or tested). This regulation also applies to après-ski night gastronomy.

No more ear pain with an FFP2 mask

Haven't found the perfect set-up for skiing with the FFP2 mask yet? Then you should definitely get our FFP2 mask clips.
You can easily attach the clips to the goggle strap and thus avoid annoying putting on and taking off the FFP2 mask or earache. Safe your day on the slopes ❄️💥

    Status: 5.10.2021

Can I ski in Austria in winter 2021/22?

The answer is yes . In the winter season 2021/22 it is possible to go skiing and snowboarding in the Austrian ski areas. A safety concept with a three-stage model was created to ensure people's health. The 3-G rule currently applies in the ski areas . If you want to buy a ski ticket , you have to be tested, vaccinated or recovered . The 3G rule applies to people aged 12 and over.

What counts as 3G proof when skiing in Austria?

Vaccinated people can go skiing. The vaccine must be approved by the EMA.

You can ski in Austria with proof of recovery from an infection you have survived. The notice of recovery is valid for six months from the date of recovery. You can also go skiing with proof of neutralizing antibodies (valid for 90 days).

People who are not vaccinated or have not recovered need a valid test to be allowed to ski. (PRC 72h or antigen 24h)

Where is mask duty when skiing in Austria?

In the cable cars, all persons over the age of 15 must wear an FFP2 mask. Pregnant women and children between the ages of six and 14 may wear a mouth and nose protector ( MNS) instead of the FFP2 mask. There are no capacity restrictions for the gondola in the 2021/22 winter season. An FFP2 mask must also be worn in shops for daily needs and on public transport. You can read here how to go skiing with an FFP2 mask.

Is après ski possible in the 2021/2022 winter season?

After a year's break, it's finally that time again: après ski is possible again in winter 2021/22. A stricter 3G rule applies here. Access is currently only permitted for vaccinated, recovered or PCR-tested people.

Are the huts in the ski areas open?

The stop in the ski huts in Austria is allowed again. People who want to consume something in the catering trade need proof of 3G (vaccinated, recovered, tested).

Are corona measures for skiing possible to be tightened?

The current measures for the 2021/22 winter season in Austria are based on a three-stage plan. The protective measures to prevent the coronavirus pandemic will be tightened as soon as the situation in the Austrian intensive care units deteriorates and more beds are occupied. You can read about what the tightening will look like here in the three-stage model.
