The first snowfall has recently arrived in some ski areas. This means that we are getting closer to the new ski season and the question arises as to when and where we can get back on the slopes. While the starting signal has already been given in large ski areas such as Sölden, the Stubai Glacier or Obergurgl, many opening events are just around the corner. In recent years, international stars such as Robbie Williams, Demi Lovato and EDM DJ Timmy Trumpet have created a great atmosphere at the ski openings in Austria. But what can we expect this year? You will find the most important information on that in this blog article.
The biggest ski openings in Austria
One of the absolute highlights of the ski season every year is the opening event in Schladming. This year it takes place from December 6th to 8th and features three big acts. The legendary Canadian rock singer Bryan Adams, who sang his way into the hearts of his fans with hits like "Everything I Do", kicks things off on December 6th. On December 7th, former The Police singer Sting will perform and the weekend will be rounded off the following day with a concert by Simply Red. But there is also a lot going on in other large ski areas in Austria this year.
The Top of the Mountain Opening Concert in Ischgl will take place on November 30th and this time features Ellie Goulding as headliner. The day before, on November 29th , the well-known hardcore band Scooter will be heating up the ski enthusiasts in Obertauern. Parallel to the opening date in Schladming from December 6th to 8th, the ski areas in the Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Fieberbrunn and Leogang as well as in St. Anton will also be opening their doors. At the former, a wide range of music will be offered as part of the BERGFESTival, ranging from Sportfreunde Stiller to Mando Diao and Feine Sahne Fischfilet. In St. Anton, on the other hand, there will be a total of three different stages offering not only music from cover bands of Queen and U2 and various DJs, but also lectures and free ski and snowboard tests.
International Ski Openings
The reopening of the ski areas is not only being celebrated extensively in Austria. There are also a number of other events that are definitely worth attending. For those who decide at short notice, there is the "Grande Premiere" in Val Thorens in France, which takes place from November 23rd to 24th . A special highlight of this event is its own raclette party and the event also shines with a wide supporting program that will make every skier's heart beat faster. Also in France, Les 2 Alpes is starting the winter season with an entire Powder Week from November 30th to December 7th. Immediately after this, the Rise Festival takes place for a week, which this year has the drum and bass duo Chase & Status as headliners.
In Samnaun, Switzerland, the ski season will be opened on November 30th with a performance by the German cover band ROCK ANTENNE and the staging of the so-called Schmuggler Trophy. Also in Switzerland, the ski opening will take place on December 7th in the Verbier Ski Area. In addition to breakfast, a DJ set and après ski, the event offers ski passes for just five Swiss francs, provided you come dressed as St. Nicholas. In Alta Badia, South Tyrol, a concert by the band Velvet Radio will take place on November 30th and a few other surprises have been announced. The slopes in Alta Badia will then open from December 5th.
