The ski season is slowly coming to an end and the temperatures are getting warmer again. So while we will remember the slopes with a crying eye to the many nice days, we can already look forward to the kick off of the bike season. The Salzburg and Berchtesgadener Land in particular score with many unique routes, embedded in a beautiful mountain and lake panorama that have something to offer for every level of difficulty. In this blog we will give you a few tips for routes that you have to have tried this year.

You have to know these main routes

For the start of your route planning, it is important to know what different paths there are in the region before you go into more precise planning. The most famous path around Salzburg is that Tauern bike path, which takes its exit near the famous waterfalls in Krimml in Pinzgau, then via Zell am See either through the Pongau or Bad Reichenhall in the Berchtesgadener Land to Salzburg and optionally even continues to Passau. In keeping with the Mozart city of Salzburg, there is also the so -called Mozart cycle path, which, among other things, connects the Salzburg region with the Berchtesgadener Land. This is a circular route starting from the city of Salzburg, which not only keeps many popular lakes in the Salzburg region (Wolfgangsee, Obertrumer See, Wallersee), but also leads across the Berchtesgadener Land past Lake Waginger or the Chiemsee in Bavaria.

If you want to drive south from the Salzburg region, then the Alpe Adria cycle path to. This also starts in the city of Salzburg and leads through the Pongau together with the Gastein valley via Carinthia directly to the Italian sea in Grado. In addition to the paths mentioned, some other routes also start in the Salzburg region, such as the Murad in Muhr im Lungau or the Ennsradweg In Flachauwinkl. The possibilities in the Salzburg and Berchtesgadener Land are almost limitless and can also bring you over the regions to fantastic destinations that make every cyclist beat faster. But if you don't want to think so big and are looking for individual stages around Salzburg and Berchtesgaden, then we have selected three routes with different levels of difficulty for you.

Individual stages around Berchtesgaden and Salzburg

The large range of routes in the region around Berchtesgaden and Salzburg can quickly overwhelm you. Especially for beginners, the question often arises how and where you can best start. Starting from the city of Salzburg, the route via Hallein to Kuchl is a highly recommended entry with a beautiful panorama. Steadly along the Salzach, you only have to overcome small gradients for a short time and can reward yourself with an ice cream in the city center of Hallein or in Kuchl in the beautiful Citizens' rake Jumping that is a real insider tip. The route is part of the Tauern bike path and in one direction around 25 km long. Depending on your strength, you can either cycle back the same route again or drive back to Salzburg with the regional train from Kuchl.

A somewhat more demanding route can be found in the Berchtesgadener Land with the Teisenberg round from Anger. The round tour is only a moderate 45 km long, but contains a few slopes and thus over 500 meters of altitude. The route leads past the idyllic Höglwörther See, via Teisendorf and Neukirchen to Inzell until you have returned to your starting point in Anger.

For advanced cyclists, the route is recommended from the well -known spa town of Bad Gastein via the Achenpromenade to St.Johann im Pongau. The route is just over 82 km long and contains just over 1000 meters of altitude. Some of the slopes are tedious in this way and require a little more strength, but you are rewarded with the incomparable prospects of the Gastein valley and can listen to the gentle noise of the Salzach in between. All more information about the routes mentioned can be found via the links in the table.
