The temperatures are getting colder, the days are shorter, and the first leaves are taking on beautiful, colorful colors. Nevertheless, we're sure to have a few more days of mild, sunny weather in the coming weeks, and with them some spectacular sunsets. So, the question arises: where can you find the best spots in Salzburg to end the day on a sunny note? We've put together a bucket list for you.

Why is it worth watching sunsets in Salzburg?

The truth is, we all love it. Finding a nice spot, catching the last rays of sunshine of the day, and simply letting go and relax. The city of Salzburg, with its many beautiful and world-famous corners, is the perfect place to do just that. But choosing the right spot isn't that easy and also depends on your own preferences. Some places in the city can be easily reached on foot or by bike, while others can be combined with a workout - two birds with one stone! For all spots, it's equally important that you protect yourself properly from the UV rays of the sun's last rays. Browse through our wide range of lifestyle sunglasses or sports glasses and you're guaranteed to be prepared for every eventuality.

These spots should definitely be on your bucket list

When it comes to sunset spots in Salzburg, it's hard to know where to start. In our opinion, there are too many beautiful spots in Salzburg to mention them all. In any case, we've compiled a list that includes something for every taste.

Gaisberg

A popular classic for sunsets around the city of Salzburg is the nearby Gaisberg . Depending on your starting point and pace (e.g., from Ludwig-Schmederer-Platz), the Salzburger mountain is a 1-2 hour hike away. This makes the Gaisberg a great place to visit after work, especially in summer, but also in autumn. If you're having a lazier day, that's no problem either. The Gaisberg is easily accessible by car and bus line 151. There are also several beautiful routes (e.g., starting from Elsbethen) for climbing the mountain by bike. The view over the city during sunset is definitely worth it.

Überfuhrsteg

The Überfuhrsteg bridge in the south of the city is a popular spot among the people of Salzburg for an evening gathering to enjoy the last rays of sunshine. The best way to reach it is to grab your bike and cycle south along the Salzach River from the Old Town. While it's busy in summer, you can sometimes have more space to yourself on a relaxed autumn evening.

Maria Plain

Away from the hustle and bustle of Salzburg's city center, Maria Plain is a great place to enjoy the evening. There, you'll find a variety of options for a long walk or run, as well as a fantastic view of the entire city of Salzburg and plenty of green meadows, perfect for finding your perfect spot to watch the sunset.

Almkanal/Praxmayer Mühle

Another very quiet spot is located along the Almkanal, right next to the Praxmayer Mühle in the rural Salzburg district of Gneis. While this is always a great place to cool off from the heat in summer, adventurous types gather here in winter for ice baths. Even the sunset here can be a spectacle on good days, creating a particularly vibrant display of colors. The best way to reach the spot is by bike - simply cycle along the Almkanal from the city and soak up the special feeling.

Mönchsberg/Kapuzinerberg

Of course, this list also includes the Mönchsberg and Kapuzinerberg, which are a short walk from Salzburg's Old Town. Especially in summer, these mountains can get quite busy, but that doesn't make the sunset any less beautiful. The Pallottinerwiese on the Mönchsberg is particularly recommended for the best view. Have fun exploring!
