Which lenses for which sport

Sports glasses are not all the same. Different lens tints serve different purposes and are therefore suitable for different activities and sports. With the practical interchangeable lens sports glasses from NAKED Optics, you can switch between these functions in seconds, ensuring you're prepared for every situation and activity. In this blog, we'll explain which lenses are best suited for different sports.

Polarized Lenses Category 4

Extra dark and polarized lenses are ideal for sports where glare is particularly intense. This includes high-altitude glacier hikes and ice climbing. Snow reflects sunlight, increasing brightness and potentially affecting your concentration. Sports on or near the water also often require darker sports lenses. Activities such as sailing or fishing can be significantly impacted by reflective glare on the water's surface. For these situations, polarized lenses are the best choice.

Dark Category 3 Lenses

For all sports in bright sunshine, our Category 3 lenses are the perfect option. Whether you're running, cycling or hiking, direct sunlight is usually the main challenge. In demanding terrain, however, polarized lenses can sometimes be a disadvantage. On rocky trails or loose gravel, polarization may flatten your perception, making it harder to distinguish contrasts and terrain details. For these situations, dark non-polarized lenses are often the better choice.

All-round Lenses Category 2

Our Category 2 interchangeable lenses provide effective protection against bright sunlight while still allowing enough light to pass through for excellent visibility. These lenses are particularly useful on cloudy days when the sun occasionally breaks through. Tip: Even on overcast days, it's worth wearing sports glasses. Harmful UV rays can still penetrate cloud cover, making eye protection essential regardless of the weather.

Contrast-enhancing Lenses Cat. 1

Our Category 1 lenses are available in two different tint colors: purple and orange. Unlike standard grey sun lenses, these colored filters enhance contrast and improve visual clarity. This is especially useful for sports that require precision in low-light conditions. Mountain biking in the forest is a perfect example where contrast-enhancing sports glasses can be a true game changer.

Clear Category 0 Lenses

Completely clear sports lenses do not provide protection against glare. However, they act as a protective shield against external elements. Whether it's wind, insects, dust, rain or snow, clear lenses help keep unwanted objects away from your eyes. Clear sports glasses are most commonly used at dusk, during the night or in poor weather conditions. That doesn't mean UV radiation disappears entirely, which is why our Category 0 lenses still offer UV380 protection for your eyes.

So, as you can see, different sports goggle lenses pay off. At NAKED Optics, you'll find many sports goggles with practical interchangeable lenses. When purchasing sports glasses together with an additional lens, you can even save € 5. So what are you waiting for?
