How to Find the Perfect Fit: Your Ski Helmet Guide

Hannah Neuhauser

Whether you're carving down freshly groomed slopes at speed, riding through deep powder or enjoying a long day of skiing in the mountains, anyone heading out into the snow needs a ski helmet that fits comfortably and provides reliable protection. That’s exactly what The APEX – our modern ski helmet for your next mountain adventures is designed for.

The APEX combines high levels of protection, premium materials and a modern design with well-thought-out features for long days on the mountain. Its robust ABS outer shell provides stability, while the lightweight polycarbonate shell contributes to a comfortable wearing experience.

But no matter how high-quality a ski helmet is, the right fit is always essential. After all, only a helmet that fits correctly and stays securely in place can provide reliable protection. We’ll show you how to find the right size and adjust The APEX perfectly to your head.

Which helmet size is right for you?

The APEX is available in two sizes based on your head circumference:

  • M: 55–59 cm
  • L: 60–63 cm

To determine the right size, all you need is a measuring tape.

Place the measuring tape around your head about 1 cm above your eyebrows and keep it as level as possible. Make sure it sits snugly without digging into your skin. The circumference measured in centimetres will show you which helmet size is right for you.

How to achieve the perfect ski helmet fit

A ski helmet should fit securely and firmly without creating uncomfortable pressure. Start by placing The APEX straight on your head. The helmet should sufficiently cover your forehead and should sit neither too far back on your head nor too low over your eyes.

Using the adjustment dial at the back of the helmet, you can quickly and precisely adapt the fit to the shape of your head. Tighten it until the helmet feels secure while still remaining comfortable.

The chin strap also plays an important role. It should be adjusted tightly enough to prevent the helmet from shifting during movement. Thanks to the magnetic Fidlock buckle, the chin strap can be opened and closed easily with just one hand – even while wearing ski gloves.

A simple test will show you whether everything is adjusted correctly: Move your head firmly from side to side. The helmet should not wobble or change position.

Comfortable ventilation in all weather conditions

On cold winter days, you want to keep as much warmth inside the helmet as possible, while during intense runs, extra ventilation can be more comfortable. That’s why The APEX features 12 actively adjustable and 8 passive ventilation openings.

You can open or close the active ventilation depending on the weather and the intensity of your run. This allows you to control how much air enters the helmet and regulate your personal climate throughout the ski day.

The padded inner lining provides additional comfort. It feels pleasantly soft and helps prevent pressure points, even during long days on the slopes.

Which ski goggles fit your helmet?

It’s not only the helmet itself that needs to fit well – your ski helmet and ski goggles should also work perfectly together. The APEX is compatible with all NAKED Optics goggles as well as most standard ski goggles.

A narrow visor at the front of the helmet provides additional protection for the upper part of your ski goggles against snow and moisture. This helps prevent the goggle foam from absorbing too much moisture and reduces the risk of fogged-up lenses – for the clearest possible vision on your runs.

Secure hold for your ski goggles

To make sure your goggles stay securely in place even during fast descents, The APEX features an integrated goggle strap holder at the back of the helmet.

The so-called Strap Tracker also provides tactile orientation points. This allows you to quickly check whether the goggle strap is positioned correctly, even while wearing ski gloves.

This way, your helmet and goggles form a reliable unit – whether you're carving down the slopes or planning your next powder run.

Ready for your next day on the mountain?

With the right size and optimal adjustment, The APEX will keep you comfortable throughout your entire ski day. The individually adjustable fit, ventilation system, Fidlock buckle and carefully designed goggle compatibility ensure that you can focus entirely on your run.

Now there’s really only one thing left to do: helmet on, goggles on and head for the mountains.
