Who hasn't experienced this? Your ski helmet slips with every turn, and your goggles don't fit properly against your helmet. This leaves a gap on your forehead, allowing cold air to rush in and leaving you exposed to snow and freezing temperatures. It's probably one of the most annoying things that can happen when buying a ski helmet and ski goggles. Fun fact: In the US, this problem even has its own day. On April 1, the so-called “Gaper Day” celebrates outrageous ski outfits and the infamous gap between helmets and goggles. To help you avoid this annoying gap and find high-quality ski goggles that fit your helmet perfectly, we've put together some useful tips to make your buying decision easier.

Already have a helmet or thinking about buying a ski helmet from another brand? Here you'll find useful tips on choosing a helmet and pairing it with NAKED Optics ski goggles.
What Should I Look for When Buying a Ski Helmet?
The search for the right ski helmet starts with a measuring tape. Before placing your order, you should know your exact head circumference to ensure a comfortable and secure fit. You can quickly check whether a helmet suits your head shape: put it on, leave the chin strap unfastened, and shake your head. If the helmet stays securely in place without wobbling or creating uncomfortable pressure points, you've found the right fit.
Choosing the Right Ski Helmet: Safety Features
Many modern ski helmets are equipped with MIPS technology. MIPS stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System and is designed to help protect your head against rotational forces during angled impacts. Unlike helmets without MIPS, these helmets feature an additional movable plastic layer inside. In the event of a fall, the helmet itself helps protect your head, while the MIPS system helps reduce rotational forces caused by the impact.
Finding Ski Goggles That Fit Your Helmet: Different Helmet Constructions
The construction of a ski helmet can make a huge difference in comfort. Have you ever heard of hard-shell helmets and in-mold helmets? These are the two main types of ski helmet construction.
Hard-shell helmets feature a sturdy outer shell made from hard plastic or carbon, which can be around two centimeters thick. Beneath this shell is a shock-absorbing layer made from compressed foam beads. The combination of the inner and outer layers creates a ventilation system that allows air to flow from the front to the back of the helmet as you carve down the slopes, helping remove heat and moisture. Hard-shell helmets are particularly popular among racers, freeriders, and freestyle skiers.
Another common construction method is in-mold technology. These helmets feature a thin, hard outer shell, making them particularly lightweight. The shell is directly bonded to impact-resistant foam material. Ventilation openings in the helmet allow you to regulate airflow, often using adjustable sliders to open or close the vents.
Good helmet ventilation generally goes hand in hand with effective ventilation in your ski goggles, helping reduce the risk of fogging. In-mold helmets are ideal for long, intense powder sessions in the mountains, helping you keep a cool head even during demanding activities.
