Hiking in nature offers the perfect balance to the otherwise stressful everyday life. But the more people are outside, the greater the traces we leave in nature. Exactly for this reason, we have summarized a few tips for you on how to make your stay in the mountains as sustainable as possible.
Environmentally conscious journey
Of course, not everyone enjoys living the luxury in the mountains and often long arrival are necessary to get there. Therefore, whenever possible, you should use public transport, such as train or bus to reduce your CO2 emissions. If the hiking area is difficult to reach by bus or train, you should make carpools to get as environmentally friendly as possible.
Plastic -free food
Plastic does not disappear so easily, but remains as a microplasty and can even end up in our groundwater. In everyday life it is often difficult to do without plastic packaging, but with the right preparation we can be plastic -free, at least on the mountain.
Instead of a disposable plastic bottle, you can use a reusable stainless steel bottle. It is not only more environmentally friendly, but also keeps your drink cool for longer at high temperatures. The same applies to snacks, which you can do in a snack can or a beeswake cloth. You can also do without a plastic packaging for energy bars if you easily prepare it yourself.
Take away the garbage
Sometimes it cannot be prevented from taking something packed in plastic and other waste, such as handkerchiefs or fruit shells, also need to rot longer than expected. Therefore, the rule applies here: leaving the mountains cleaner than you found it.
So you shouldn't just throw your garbage away and preferably take other waste that you can find on the way.
Stay on marked paths and do not change nature
Especially in summer this is an important point so as not to disturb the flora and fauna. You should therefore avoid abbreviations through the meadow or the forest as far as possible. In addition, you should avoid picking flowers, break off branches or take stones as souvenir, because that too is an unnecessary interference in the nature of sustainable damage.
Sustainable equipment
Many resources are often used in particular when producing textile products. Basically, the less new to buy, the better. However, since you still need something every now and then, you should pay attention to sustainable brands when buying. At Naked Optics, we also use sustainable materials. Living sustainably does not have to be complicated and with these 5 tips you can also help protect our nature and the environment in the long run.
